“The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue” moves to its sixth stop at Palacio de Carlos V - Conjunto Monumental de la Alhambra y Generalife in Granada, Spain, after the successful journey that started since 2018 in the Grandmaster's Palace in Valletta/Malta, then The UNESCO Headquarters and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris/France, The Weltmuseum in Vienna/Austria and the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid/Spain.
The highly esteemed Palacio de Carlos V - Conjunto Monumental de la Alhambra y Generalife in Granada represents the perfect spot for this exhibition since it was designed to create strong and durable cultural ties while cultivating constructive dialogue between the Arab World, Spain, and Europe. This cross-disciplinary space is enhanced by six emblematic pieces from the Alhambra Museum, becoming the ideal place for the development of cultural projects, creators and thinkers from the Arab world intended to make a distinctive contribution to the institutional cultural landscape.
The Majlis - Cultures in Dialogue features a selection of over seventy objects that brings together the long tradition of exchange and dialogue in the Arabian Peninsula and beyond its borders. The artefacts tell stories that one might hear in a Majlis, the social space present in every Arab home. They are stories born of an ambitious project started by the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum in 2018, with the aim to become a multifaceted forum for inclusive dialogue that connects people, beliefs, and cultures. Enriched by an open space for discussions, the exhibition aims to expand the horizons of our understanding of other people and places.
